Miss Komal Parmar, Ms. Ravina Anghan, Mr. Hardik sorathiya and Mr. Sagar patoliya; students of 3rd semester of M.Sc. Physics of Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University did their summer internship at Department of Physics, Sardar Vallabhabhai National Institute and Technology, Surat during May 15-June 15, 2018. During the internship they work on two area viz. "Synthesis of thin film by Chemical Bath Deposition method" and ?Measurement of I-V characteristics of Solar cell". They did rigorous literature survey in both areas and successfully prepared thin films. They also take and analyzed I-V characteristic data of the solar cell at SVNIT.
Miss Prinkal Patel, Miss. Vidya Patel and Miss. Apeksha Parmar; students of 3rd semester of M.Sc. Physics of Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University participated in "Experimental Techniques in Physics" during 4-14 June, 2018 organized by Indian Institute of Advanced Research (IAR) Gandhinagar, Gandhinagar. At workshop students learn about fundamentals of Plasma Physics, Vacuum Techniques and Applications, Atomic Spectroscopy, CAD design, and computer simulation. They also got training on Arduino. As a part of workshop they visited Facilitation Centre for Industrial Plasma Technologies (FCIPT), Gandhinagar and Institute For Plasma Research (IPR) Gndhinagar.
Mr. Hardik Sorathiya; students of 3rd semester of M.Sc. Physics of Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University got selected and participated in "'NCPRE Familiarization Workshop on Photovoltaics' on May 25, 2018 organized by National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Educatioon (NCPRE), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Bombay. This workshop was focused on fabrication and characterization of Solar Cell. In the workshop special lectures on future scope of Photovoltaic technology and research activities at NCPRE were also organized. Mr. Hardik Sorathiya also got opportunity to visit sophisticated clean room NCPRE laboratories.
Department of Physics along with Department of Chemistry and Department of Mathematics, UTU celebrated Sports Days during February 28, 2018 to March 1, 2018. Students along with faculty members play various games such as Cricket, Volley ball, Badminton etc. Miss. Anitakumari Lor and Miss. Asma Shaikh (Students of Integrated M.Sc. Physics Semester II) win the women's Badminton tournament.
Department of Physics organized an expert lecture of Prof. Krzysztof Jan Kurzydlowski, Director, Material Science and Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland on February 9, 2018, at Manjula Hall from 2:00 PM onwards. He delivered lecture on "Computational Design of Advanced Engineering Materials". Total 200 students from different disciplines (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biotechnology) along with faculty members attended this lecture. Later on Prof. Krzysztof Jan Kurzydlowski, Prof. Alba, Dr. Piotr Spiewak and Prof. P. K. Jha visited the university.

Sem II, Department of Physics, UTU) presented their research work on "Waste Water Treatment using Activated Carbon"; under the guidance of Dr. Parth Joshi (Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, UTU) at ANVESHAN-2018 organized by Ganpan University, Mehsana, Gujarat during February 14-15, 2018.
Dr. Kinjal Patel, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University has presented her research paper on "Influence of Carrier Concentration on the Performance of CIAS Solar Cell" at "International Conference on Nano-materials for Energy Conversion and Storage Applications" organized by Pandit Deendayal Petrolium University (PDPU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat during January 29th - 31st, 2018" Mr. Vishva Jain, Faculty member, Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University has also presented his research paper on "Structural, Compositional and Optical properties of spin coated MoO3 thin film for hole selective contact for silicon solar cell" in the same conference. Miss. Digisha Tandel, Miss. Vanshika Soliya and Miss. Chandani Patel; M.Sc. Students, Department of Physics have also presented their research work on "Effect of Annealing Time on Optical and Electrical Properties of CdS Thin Films" in the same conference. Mr. Chirag Patel, M.Sc. Students, Department of Physics has also presented his research work on "Synthesis and Characterization of Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles by Precipitation Method for Potential Application in Water Treatment" in the same conference. Mr. Nisarg Chodavadiya, M.Sc. Students, Department of Physics has also presented his research work on " Synthesis and Characterization of Cadmium Sulphide Thin Films Prepared by Spin Coating" in the same conference. Mr. Meet Vyas, M.Sc. Students, Department of Physics has also presented his research work on "Sorption Studies of Nickel Ions onto Activated Carbon" in the same conference.
Miss. Harshita Gohil, Miss. Purvi Chaudhari and Miss. Priyanka Vasava; students of 6th semester of Integrated M.Sc. Physics of Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University got selected to do minor project at Environmental survey laboratory, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Kakarapar site. They learn measurement of radiation detection using whole body counting i.e. Sodium Iodide with activated Thallium detector, semiconductor detector, liquid scintillation spectrometer and gross alpha detector. They measure radioactivity in samples of food, water, soil, plants etc. collected from nearby environment. They analyze effect of radiation on them. They also measure radiation in workers before and after their work in the nuclear reactors. They also measure radiation in humid and dry air. They got encouraged to do further study in the field of Nuclear Science. Students are thankful to staff of NPCIL for providing opportunity to learn and work in professional environment.

Miss. Pooja Panicker, Miss. Khushbu Pal, Miss. Aashi Naik, Miss. Maitreyee Sali, Miss. Krupa Faldu and Miss. Sejal Patel; students of 6th semester of Integrated M.Sc. Physics of Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University got opportunity to do internship at Nirali Memorial Radiation Centre, Saroli, Surat. They had successfully completed their internship for seven days at the centre. They learn use of nuclear radiation in cancer treatment and basic methodology involved in it. They got hands on training to use linear accelerator which is use to apply control radiation on specific part of human body. They also learn brachy therapy for cancer treatment. All students got rigorous training of identification of tumor area and the cure process. They also initiate to spread message to stop using tobacco for prevention of cancer disease.
Miss. Swatikumari Shirsagar and Mr. Meet Vyas; students of final semester of M.Sc. Physics of Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University got opportunity to do internship at the Unique Engineering laboratory, Surat for period of one month. At the laboratory, they learn about cement testing and aggregate testing methods used for quality check of the cement and aggregates. They also learn different characteristics of soil & it's testing methods such as Triaxiel shear test, specific gravity test, CBR Test, permeability test, Plastic limit liquid limit test etc. Students are thankful to staff and management of Unique Engineering laboratory for providing opportunity to learn and work in professional environment. They got encouraged to do further study in field of material science.
Miss. Vanshika Soliya, Miss. Amisha Champaneri and Mr. Jignesh Zinzala; students of final semester of M.Sc. Physics from Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University got opportunity to do internship at Department of Physics, S. V. National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat for period of one month. They did their internship under the guidance of Dr. Vipul Kheraj, Head, Department of Physics, SVNIT. Students got hands on training on the Photo-luminance and UV visible spectroscopy there. They learn measurement and analysis of optical properties of the materials using this spectroscopy. They got encouraged to do further study in field of optics.
Miss. Divya Ahir and Miss. Rujuta Patel; students of 4th semester of M.Sc. Physics of Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University got opportunity to do internship at Department of Electronics, V.P. & R. P. T. P. science college, Vallabh Vidyanagar. They studied computation of low energy calculation of CF2 radical, SF2 and H2 molecules. These calculations are performed for the better establishment of target molecule and hence the accurate results for various scattering cross sections. Study will also direct the research work towards the better understanding of the electronic excitations and resonance phenomena.
Miss. Digishaben Tandel, Mrs. Chandniben Patel and Mr. Nisarg Chodavadiya; students of final semester of M.Sc. Physics of Department of Physics, Uka Tarsadia University got opportunity to do internship at the Bhumi Research Center, Surat for period of one month. At the centre, they learn soil testing methods such as sieve analysis, hydrometer test, specific gravity, FSI, consolidation test and shear parameters of soil by testing. They also learn cement testing, aggregate testing methods used for their quality checks. Students are thankful to staff and management of Bhumi Research Center for providing opportunity to learn and work in professional environment.
Department of Physics organized educational visit to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Kakrapar site, Gujarat on December 16, 2017. 46 students of Integrated M.Sc. Physics Semester IV and VI along with three faculty members Dr. Jaymin Ray, Dr. Kinjal Patel and Mr. Vishva Jain visited the site. Shri. H. M. Parmar and Shri. Solanki (Experts from NPCIL) provided Technical information about the site at training center. Shri. Altaf Patel and Shri. B. N. Vankar (Experts from NPCIL) explained in details about plant. They elaborate the detail working of the Reactor Building (RB) - 1 & 2, Turbine Building (TB) - 1 & 2, Service Building, Pump House, Natural Draft Cooling Tower (NDCT) - 1 & 2, Induced Draft Cooling Tower (IDCT) - 1 & 2, 220 KV Switch yard and Ware House during visit. Students had actively engage with the expert from NPCIL and learn about the latest research and technologies used in Nuclear science. Experts also gave the information about electric power generation using nuclear power and distribution through seven numbers of 220KV lines and that connecting to the Gujarat electricity board grid network.
Department of Physics organized Hands on training program on "Hands Basic Electrical Circuit Components and its Application in Device Fabrication" by Dr. Jaymin Ray and Mr. Vishva Jain on October 14, 2017 at Department of Physics from 9:30 AM onwards. Dr. Jaymin Ray and Mr. Vishva Jain, faculties from Department of Physics, UTU organized and gave hands on training to students in the program.
Total 20 students of Integrated M.Sc. Physics and M.Sc. Physics participated in the training program. Students understand use of basic electrical components in daily used appliances. Students also made LED series and extension board in the program. The hands-on training enhances their knowledge in electrical components and ability to work in group.
Department of Physics organized an expert lecture of Dr. Ajay K. Rai on September 23, 2017 from 9:00 AM onwards. Dr. Ajay K. Rai, Assistant Professor at Department of Physics, S. V. National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat delivered an expert talk on "Elementary particles and their properties". Students of Integrated M.Sc. Physics and M.Sc. Physics attended the lecture. The lecture inspired students and also encourage them to perceive research in particle physics.

Department of Physics organized Poster making competition on September 2, 2017. Students of Integrated M.Sc. Physics participated and made posters on various topics such as LASER, Thermodynamics: laws and vocabulary, Nanotechnology, Think, Nuclear Science etc. the event. Miss. Krupa Faldu (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem V), Mr. Vinayak Mull and Mr. Yuvrajsinh Mahida (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem I) got first price in the competition. Miss. Kesha Patel and Mr. Yash Soni (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem III) got second price in the competition. Miss. Vishakha Shrimali, Miss. Anitakumari Lor and Miss. Khyatikumari Chaudhari (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem I) got third price in the competition.
Department of Physics and Mathematics jointly organized a seminar on Indian Nuclear Power Program, Radiation - A fact of life and DAE - Societal benefits at Jatin Desai Hall on September 1, 2017, with the aim to draw the attention of student community towards Nuclear Power as safe, economical, environmentally benign, long term source of electrical energy and to remove the misconceptions about radiation from their mind. Total 150 students of Integrated M.Sc. Physics, M.Sc. Physics and Integrated M. Sc. Mathematics along with faculty members attended this lecture. The Seminar consisted of two lectures. The first lecture on "Indian Nuclear Power program" was delivered by Shri R K Dubey, STO (M), Kakrapar Gujarat Site. He covered the topics such as Global Energy scenario, Need of nuclear power, Three Stage Indian Nuclear Power program, functioning of a Nuclear Power Station, Radiological & Safety features of a Nuclear Power Station and Waste Management. Dr. A. K. Patra, Head, Environmental Survey Laboratory (ESL), Kakrapar Gujarat Site delivered a lecture on "Radiation- A Fact of Life, Environment Impact Assessment around Kakrapar Gujarat Site and DAE-Societal benefits".
Department of Physics organizes making of Best out of Waste competition on August 26, 2017. Students of Integrated M.Sc. Physics and M.Sc. Physics participated and demonstrated static and working models such as flower pots and bowls, hydraulic jack, mini fountain etc. in the event. Dr. Mukesh Patel (Course Co-ordinator, Department of Mathematics, UTU) judges the models and declare winners. Miss. Asma Shaikh, Mr. Vinayak Mull and Mr. Yuvrajsinh Mahida (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem I), got first price in the competition. Miss. Krupa Faldu, Miss. Harshita Gohil and Miss. Mayuri Gohil (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem V) got Second price in competition. Mr. Yuvraj Parmar and Rajal Verma (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem III) got third price in the competition. Mr. Yash Soni (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem III), Mr. Abhishek Bed and Mr. Smit Dungrani (Students, Int. M.Sc. Sem I) got complementary price in the event.
Mr. Vikas Patel, faculty member at Department of Physics, UTU delivered the special lecture on 'Physics: in daily life' followed by 'the ideas of making Best from Waste' on August 19, 2017 from 8-30 AM to 10-00 AM. Total 87 students of Integrated M.Sc. Physics and M.Sc. Physics attended this lecture and learn about creating useful items such as water level indicator, water cooler, electromagnetic waves generation using pencils and Light Emitting Diodes (LED), wave generation using straw, Preparation of demo model using matchbox and valve tube etc. from the unwanted or waste items. From this lecture, students understand how basic laws of physics can be applied in routine life.
Department of Physics along with Department of Chemistry and Department of Mathematics, UTU celebrated Janmashtami on August 14, 2017. Students along with faculty members do worship of lord Krishna. On this occasion, rangoli competition, nail art competition, matki decoration competition were organized. All students actively participated in the competitions.
