  • 2nd Convocation on 14th October 2014

    The 2nd Annual Convocation of Uka Tarsadia University was held at Amphitheater CGPIT, UTU, Maliba campus, Bardoli on Tuesday, 14th October 2014 with enthusiasm and gaiety. The convocation ceremony was held in the evening between 6:00 pm to 7: 30 pm which was followed by dinner which concluded at 9:30 p.m. Given below are highlights of the day's proceedings.

    The ceremonial procession entered amphitheater at 5:45 p.m. It included the eminent Chief Guest, Dr. Hasmukh P Rama, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, JHM Hotels Greenville, South Carolina USA; Mr. Kirit Patel, the President of 2nd convocation ceremony and Vice-President of Uka Tarsadia University, Hon. Provost of the University, Dr. D R Shah, Shri Bhagubhai Patel - President of Bardoli Pradesh Kelvani Mandal, Shri Arvindbhai Patel - Joint Secretary of Bardoli Pradesh Kelvani Mandal, Deans of various faculties of UTU, Members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Management and Academic Council. The procession was led by the Registrar, who carried the University Flag.

    The ceremony commenced with the university song which was unveiled for the first time on this auspicious occasion. The proceedings of the Convocation also began with chanting of Vedic hymns by a group of students. The Dignitaries inaugurated the convocation ceremony by lighting the lamp. All the dignitaries on the dais were felicitated by trustees of BPKM. Trustees of BPKM formally welcomed the chief guest with flowers. The graduates and guests were notably impressed by the splendor of the ceremonial traditions of UTU and the grandeur of the amphitheater in which the ceremony took place.

    The convocation ceremony was declared open by President of function Mr. Kirit Patel. He announced "I declare the 2nd annual convocation of UKA TARSADIA UNIVERSITY, open". A brief introduction of university was given by the host for the function Dr. Ketan Ranch.

    Dr. Ketan Ranch also introduced and invited Hon'ble Provost Dr. D R Shah for his inaugural address. In his inaugural speech, Honrble Provost Dr. D R Shah warmly congratulated the graduates on their achievements: "I acknowledge that your journey in getting to this point has been far from easy and I know that for all of you, it represents a long and sustained commitment to a program of study." He extended a warm and affectionate welcome to the Chief Guest, Dr. Hasmukh P Rama. He also highlighted the achievements of Uka Tarsadia University in its journey so far. The Hon Provost then shared the details of the progress made by UTU in the preceding academic year (2012- 13) regarding the new infrastructure (extension buildings and living spaces in the campus) as well as the new academic programs of UTU. He shared the key statistical facts of the university such as the Student-Teacher Ratio at UTU, year-on-year increase of intake in courses, research publications and the growing expertise of the teaching faculty. He also announced future vision and plans of university in coming years.

    He expressed his gratitude to the esteemed donors Shri Naranjibhai Bhakta, Shri B. U. Patel and Shri Bhulabhai Vanmalibhai Patel for their generous contributions and to the BPKM Trust which believes that only education can transform the society. He said that diffusion of scientific, technical and professional knowledge is emphasized at Uka Tarsadia University and ethics form an integral part of the education, which builds the character of the youth. He re-emphasized that university is not merely an examination body but a nursery of good citizens.

    The esteemed donors of this university Shri Naranjibhai Bhakta, Shri B. U. Patel and Shri Bhulabhai Vanmalibhai Patel had sent their best wishes and congratulatory messages on the occasion of second convocation of UTU. These messages were read out by the host of the ceremony. (Encl: Donor's message on second convocation of UTU).

    Following the approval for degrees, the Registrar, presented the graduands to the Revered President Mr. Kirit Patel for the award of degrees and gold medals to be presented to meritorious students. Hon. President with the consent of the Board of Management said "By the authority given to me as the President of this University, I admit you one and all to the Degrees for which you have qualified and I charge you that ever in your life and conversation you prove yourself worthy of the same. I admit other candidates also to the said Degrees and Diplomas in absentia".

    This year, 928 students were awarded degrees and 22 students were awarded gold medals. Anchor of the convocation ceremony Ms Jaishree Tailor administered the pledge to the graduating students. Ms. Jaishree Tailor introduced and invited Chief Guest Dr. Hasmukh P Rama for his convocation address.

    Delivering his convocation address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Hasmukh Rama stressed that this University has a strong spiritual basis and social foresight that enables students to remain rooted in India and its value system even as the students scale new heights in terms of higher education. He congratulated the graduands and advised them to become a part of the nation-building process as education empowered them to be a major constructive force to propel inclusive growth of the nation as a whole. Referring to the challenges faced by him in his early days, he gave eight basic principles for leading a successful life in this competitive world. The distinguished Chief Guest emphasized the need for creating a holistic learning environment, (making education studentcentric) and quick translation of new knowledge for moving towards a better quality of life.

    Mr. Kirit Patel presented a memento to Chief Guest Dr. Hasmukh Rama as a token of gratitude and love from UTU.

    Ms. Jaishree Patel invited and introduced Mr. Kirit Patel for his Presidential Address. He advised students to realize the sacredness of the culture of Bharat, serve society selflessly and earn a good name. He acknowledged all trustees and donors associated with BPKM for their contribution. He stated that education was not merely for a living but for life. Lakhs of students, he said, received degrees every year, but what students should acquire is the degree of Educare, and manifest their innate divinity.

    The Registrar Dr. Renu Chauhan conveyed the vote of thanks at the second convocation ceremony of UTU. She acknowledged and thanked the Chief Guest, President and Hon. Provost for gracing the special occasion.

    In conclusion, Mr. Kirit Patel declared the closure of 2nd convocation ceremony of UTU. He said "I declare that the 2nd Annual Convocation of Uka Tarsadia University is dissolved."The national anthem and group photo session marked the end of the 2 nd Annual Convocation ceremony of UTU.
